Ross County Tire and Electronics Collection

The Ross, Pickaway, Highland, Fayette Solid Waste District is sponsoring a tire and electronics recycling event this weekend. The first five passenger tires per vehicle are collected at no charge, while fees apply for additional tires and sizes:

  • Tires up to 19" rim size - $2 each
  • Tires over 19" rim size - 24.5" - $8 each
  • Semi-Truck - $8 each
  • Rear Farm (Tractor) - $25 each
  • Off Road/OTR - $50 each

Other miscellaneous tires will be priced on site, and tires may be on or off the rim.

Judi Mannion, with the Solid Waste District, said leaving unwanted tires in your hard can pose issues.

"Mosquitoes will breed in the water that collects inside the tires, so if they're left out in the open that is a danger to us with the diseases that mosquitoes carry," said Mannion, "and they can harbor other things like snakes, so really the best use for them is to get them recycled."

In addition to tires, a variety of electronics will be collected as well: "Any kind of computer equipment, monitors, phones, cables, stereo equipment and speakers, video games, cameras, iPads, scanners, lithium-ion batteries, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, Smart Boards," said Mannion.

The Ross County Tire and Electronics Recycling Special Collection Event will run 8 a.m. to noon at the Ross County Fairgrounds, on Fairgrounds Road, right off of State Route 104, on Saturday.

Tire recycling fees can be paid through cash or check to Sundown Tire Recycling, while electronics recycling fees may be paid via cash or check to Accurate IT Services.
