Adena Baseball District Bound


The Adena Warriors were the lone SVC Division 3 baseball team to advance to districts, as both Paint Valley and Huntington fell in sectional final action, Saturday.


The Warriors scored early and often in a 14-0 win over North Adams in five innings. Adena's offense built onto an early lead when they struck for nine runs in the third inning, then cruised to the victory. 

Ethan Kunkel worked 5 innings to gain the win, yielding only 4 hits and fanning 4 Devils hitters. The Warriors defense played without an error in the game. 

On offense, the Warriors had 15 hits. Some of the hitting leaders were:

Caleb Foglesong, 4-4, 3 RBIs, RS

Zach Fout, 2-3, 2B 3B, 3 RBIs, 2 RS

Ethan Cunningham, 2-3, 2 RBIs, 2 RS

Ethan Kunkel, 2-4, 2 RBIs, 2 RS

Nate Throckmorton, 2-3, 3B, RBI, 2 RS

Garrett Wilburn, 2-4, RBI, 2 RS

(18-7) Adena will head to the D-3 District Semi on Friday, May 18th where they will meet South Point in the 7pm game.  

94 Country WKKJ will broadcast the game with airtime approximately 6:45pm. The Pointers advanced with a 1-0 win over Meigs.


In other action involving SVC teams in the sectional finals, Portsmouth West took advantage of Paint Valley errors and multiple walks for a 10-3 victory. West struck for three runs in the top of the first and were up 5-1 after two innings. That lead increased to 7-1 in the third, and later 9-2 in the fifth.

Both teams each traded a run the rest of the game until the 10-3 final. The Bearcats close their season with a (15-12) mark.


Huntington ran into a buzz-saw at Minford, with the Falcons earning a 9-0 win for a sectional title. The sectional runner-up finish under new Head Coach Ed Yates, closed the book on a turn-around (14-14) season.
