Stray Dog Given Medal After Running Half Marathon

A stray dog was awarded a medal after completing a half marathon in Western Australia. As 96 runners lined up to run the Goldfields Pipeline Marathon, Stormy was running around the crowd of people and getting ready to race.

“This dog is walking around, making itself known to all the runners. We get the air horn out and say ‘Go’ and off he goes with everybody,” volunteer coordinator Allison Hunter told ABC News

Stormy managed to keep pace with its human counterparts, making it to the finish line in two-and-a-half hours, the average time it took for runners to complete the 13.1-mile race.

After the race, organizers tried to find Stormy's owners but were unsuccessful. They brought the dog to the local pound, where it will stay for one week before being put up for adoption. Before leaving Stormy behind they awarded the fast pup with a medal for completing the race, hoping the exposure will help Stormy find its owners.
