Ross County NAACP to Celebrate the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The Ross County NAACP observes its annual Jubilee & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day on Sunday, January 20th. The celebration begins at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church, located at 84 S. Clinton Road in Chillicothe.

This year's speaker will be Zion Pastor, Reverend Dr. J. Troy Gray.

The annual Jubilee Day celebrates the freeing of American slaves during the Civil War when President Abraham Lincoln signed the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation.

Then, on Monday, January 21st, the group "Women In The NAACP" will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a special brunch and panel discussion focusing on the concept of freedom, and whether or not we are truly living in freedom. It begins at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, located at 65 W 4th Street

Both the annual Jubilee & Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Day are open to the public. A donation will be accepted for that Monday's brunch.

Questions ahead of the event should be directed to Adrienne D'Souza, President of the Ross County NAACP, at 740-466-5280.
