Ross County Grand Jury: Chase in Massieville, Guns in Car

The Ross County Grand Jury returned all of their 19 cases Friday, with eight open.

---

In one, according to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, at about 3:30pm on January 17th, a Highway Patrol trooper saw a car weaving on Massieville Road. The driver accelerated when the trooper turned on his lights, and drove around a stopped school bus at 40 miles an hour.

The suspect turned onto Tabernacle Road and Hughes Lane, returning to Massieville Road...when he stopped in a front yard, jumped out, and ran. 27-year-old Clyde L. Jones of Tabernacle Road was later captured by an assisting officer. He said he stopped the car where he did because it ran out of gas.

His passenger, 26-year-old Mary Beth Jones of Mill Street, Chillicothe, also started to run...but then returned to the car and pulled out a black bag that the trooper could see contained a handgun. He ordered her to stop or he would shoot...when she said it was just a BB gun, and she used it for self protection because she 'works the streets.'

Mary Beth Jones was indicted for aggravated possession of 0.59 grams of meth, and could get up to one year and $2,500 in fines.

Clyde L. Jones, who was on community control, was indicted for failure to comply, and could get up to five years and $10,000 in fines.

In another, according to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, a Chillicothe Police officer on patrol stopped a Nissan on Yoctangee Parkway for a traffic violation, after a tip by an undercover detective.

The front passenger was 37-year-old Michael W. Bobo of Columbus, who said there was a loaded handgun in the glove box, but he did not have a CCW permit.

The woman driver said there was another firearm in the car, but she did not know where. Back passenger 27-year-old Jordan A. Moody of Columbus said it was under the driver's seat, and was his, and he DID have a CCW permit...but he tested as intoxicated.

Moody was indicted for improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and could get up to a year and $2,500 in fines.

Bobo was indicted for carrying a concealed weapon, and could get up to a year and a half and $5,000 in fines.
