Overbridge Road Bridge Demolition Results in Overnight Closures on U.S. 23

 -

A bridge demolition project is under way at U.S. Route 23 and Overbridge Road in Ross County, and U.S. 23 will be closed during the overnight hours early next week.

-

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, crews from Shelly & Sands, Incorporated are removing the overpass bridge and installing permanent traffic control devices on Overbridge Road where it crosses U.S. 23 just north of the State Route 159 interchange. The structure on Overbridge Road was closed in March 2018 due to the bridge’s deteriorated condition and safety concerns.

-

In order to expedite operations and provide for the safety of motorists during demolition of the bridge, it will be necessary to close U.S. 23 in either direction, with the route closed in opposing directions on back-to-back nights in the first phase of work.

-

On Sunday, March 24th, both southbound lanes of U.S. 23 will be closed, and the closure will in effect from approximately 10 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday, March 25th. Then, the following night, both northbound lanes will be closed from approximately 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 26th.

-

During periods of closure, traffic will be detoured via S.R. 207, S.R. 104 and U.S. 35. At other times during the project, traffic will be maintained in a minimum of one lane in either direction.

-

Shelly & Sands, Inc. was awarded a contact in the amount of $263,413 to remove the bridge, and all work is scheduled to be completed by early summer.
