Chillicothe's Wheatberry Books to Hold Local Author Showcase, Saturday

-

More than a dozen local authors will gather in downtown Chillicothe this Saturday afternoon for a unique event promoting the wealth of creativity displayed by the area’s local authors.

-

Wheatberry Books in downtown Chillicothe will be hosting a Local Author Showcase along East 4th Street, next to Paper City Coffee and the Mighty Children’s Museum.

-

"When we launched Wheatberry Books we wanted to promote reading," said owner Chelsea Bruning. "We also wanted to promote the great writing talent from right here in the Scioto Valley. This event is the perfect way to do that."

-

The Local Author Showcase, which runs from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., allows attendees to meet the authors behind the stories, ask questions, and get a signed copy of the books they've written.

-

"It isn't often that you're able to read an amazing story and dive deeper into it by talking directly to the person who either lived it or created it," Bruning said.

-

From children's books to novels, love stories to ghost stories, local talent has written a wide variety of works.

-

Chelsea's husband Matt Bruning is helping out with the event. He details a few of the local authors that will be appearing.

-

“Shauna Shanks, she wrote a book about her relationship with her husband, it’s a great story about love and overcoming some serious barriers,” said Bruning. “Neal Parks is also going to be there. He’s written several books about paranormal activity, mostly here in the Chillicothe area. And then of course Donald Ray Pollock is a very well-known author, even across the nation, not just here locally. There are also some children’s authors that will be there as well, so it’s really a fun event for the entire family.”

-

The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available along South Paint Street or in a municipal parking lot at West 4th Street and South Paint Street.

-

“We’re closing off 4th Street right there at Paper City Coffee," said Bruning. "We’re going to have tents set up, we’ll have tables and we’ll have lots of authors."
