OHSAA Decides Fate of Boys Volleyball in June

The Ohio High School Athletic Association will decide this June whether to recognize boys high school volleyball as one of their sanctioned sports. That according to OHSAA Head Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass, who spoke to the OHSAA Media Committee Thursday at their annual meeting in Columbus.

.

Previous OHSAA guidelines required a sport to have at least 250 schools with a specific sport, before they would adopt it as a sanctioned sport. That is no longer the case, now that OHSAA recognizes what they refer to as "emerging sports", in order to offer more options of extra curricular activities for high school student athletes.

.

Snodgrass says the current governing body for boys volleyball in Ohio High School Boys Volleyball Association, has 71 schools that offer volleyball in the spring months. Chillicothe High School is one of the nearest schools in our area that has a team.
