Proposed Tax Levy for Greenfield Remains Undecided Following Official Count

-

The future of a proposed income tax levy for the Village of Greenfield remains undecided following the Highland Board of Elections official count for the May 7th Special Election.

-

The proposed one-eighth percent income tax levy, intended for the maintenance of Greenfield Town Hall and economic development within the village, came out in a tie during the election at exactly 50-percent for and against.

-

“The vote previously at our unofficial count was 76-76,” said Highland Board of Elections Director, Debbie Craycraft. “Today when we had the official, we added in two provisional ballots which now makes it 77-77. Because of that we now have to have an automatic recount which we are going to do next Tuesday the 28th in our office.”

-

Craycraft says if the result of the recount ends in a tie, the levy would fail and would need to be reintroduced in a later election.

-

Next Tuesday’s recount will take place at 8:00 a.m. at the Highland Board of Elections. The public is welcome to attend.
