Unioto Dodges Upset vs Piketon

Unioto remains in a first place tie with Zane Trace with a 45-40 win at home vs Piketon. The final margin was the largest that either team had in the game, with both teams enjoying four point leads at different times in the contest.

The Shermans led 12-10 after the first quarter, but Piketon took a 20-18 lead into halftime. Unioto trailed 25-24 midway through the third quarter, but finished strong on a 9-4 run for a 33-29 lead.

Piketon led as late as 40-38 and then 40-39, but Unioto closed on a 6-0 run to win. Piketon had their chance trailing 43-40 with Unioto on the foul line, but the Shermans missed two shots and Piketon got the rebound, only to lose the ball out of bounds. The Redstreaks had to foul, which led to Nate Keiser sinking two free throws to clinch the win.

Keiser led all players with 17 points, Isaac Little added 15. Piketon was led by Brody Fuller's 11 points.

Unioto shot 14/28 from the field for 50%- including 5/10 from behind the arc and 12/18 at the foul line. Piketon was 13/30 from the floor for 43%- including 6/13 from the arc and 8/9 from the line.

The Redstreaks edged Unioto on the glass 17-16, but also had 16 turnovers to Unioto's 14.

Unioto improves to (9-1/12-3) and remain tied with Zane Trace, who beat Huntington 78-35. The shocker of the night was Westfall's 51-50 upset at Adena, pushing the Warriors two games out of first place. Paint Valley was an 86-58 winner over Southeastern.
