Learn about ancient camp sites near a local Hopewell earthwork tonight.
The Mound City chapter of the Ohio Archaeological Society has their first meeting of the year, 7pm at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park on SR 104 just north of Chillicothe.
Retired teacher and archaeologist Gary Argabright will present “Harness Site 28: A Ross County Fluted Point Campsite,” combining insights from flint experts Rich Walker and Lou Walsh, with his 25 years of surface collecting experience along a three-mile stretch of the High Bank terrace and the river bottoms below.
Argabright will discuss the topographical features, natural resources, and other considerations which made this a prime location for a Paleo Indian encampment and give a better glimpse into the Paleo way of life.
The chapter will also plan exhibits at this year’s Archaeology Day at the Ross County Historical Society on Saturday, April 18th.
