Wrong Way Driver Causes a Two Vehicle Injury Crash

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle head on crash that occurred at 5:50am Wednesday on US Route 23 at River Road in Pike County.

A Subaru Forester, driven by 63-year-old Rodney McKinley of McDermott, Ohio, was traveling northbound on US 23 near River Road when a Dodge Ram, driven by 43-year-old Michael Spriggs of Waverly crossed from the southbound lanes to travel southbound in the northbound lanes of US 23.

McKinley was struck head-on by Spriggs, causing both vehicles to become disabled blocking US 23 northbound for approximately an hour and a half.

McKinley was transported from the scene to the Adena Medical Center in Waverly then transferred to the Grant Medical Center in Columbus with non-life threatening injuries.

Spriggs was found to be impaired by drugs during the initial investigation and was driving the vehicle without the owner’s permission. Spriggs was transported from the scene to the Adena Medical Center in Waverly then transferred to the Grant Medical Center in Columbus with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ohio State Patrol was assisted on the scene by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office, the Piketon Police Department and Pike County Fire/EMS personnel.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are going to be filed through the Pike County Prosecutors Office.
