Miley Cyrus has inked a new record deal, Billboard reports.
The “Prisoner” singer-songwriter, who was previously signed for three albums with RCA Records, has reportedly moved to Columbia Records, according to what sources close to the matter told the outlet on Wednesday (March 3).
Per the report, Columbia Chairman and CEO Ron Perry has reportedly spent the past couple of months making multiple trips to Los Angeles in an effort to court Cyrus to sign with the recording company. Evidently, Perry has a good rapport with Cyrus, her manager, Maverick Management’s Adam Leber, her attorney Bill Sobel, and her mother, Tish Cyrus.
Cyrus released her latest album, the rock-infused LP Plastic Hearts, via RCA Records in November 2020. The album debuted atop Billboard’s Rock Albums chart, selling 60,000 units in its first week.
In addition to Plastic Hearts, the Disney alum's two previous studio albums, 2017's Younger Now and 2013's Bangerz, were released through RCA Records. The former effort debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart, whereas the latter topped the chart with first-week sales of 270,000 units and produced the pop star’s first number-one single, “Wrecking Ball.”
Additionally, Cyrus released an independent album under her Smiley Miley, inc, titled Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, which later released via other streaming platforms under RCA in 2017.
In joining Columbia, Cyrus would also be on the same record label as sister Noah Cyrus and her good friend, Grammy-winning rapper Lil Nas X. She’d also be in the company of label mates like Beyonce, Harry Styles, Adele, AC/DC, and blink-182.
At the time of this writing, Cyrus has yet to confirm or deny the deal.
