Genesis fans have been looking forward to the band's reunion tour since it was first announced in March 2020. Initially postponed due to the pandemic and now slated to begin next month, The Last Domino? Tour will see Genesis' first shows since 2007. But Phil Collins has revealed he won't be the one behind the drum kit.
After suffering a spinal injury in 2007 that damaged the vertebrae in his upper neck, Collins has been suffering from nerve damage. The injury has made it difficult for Collins to even hold a drum stick, and the Genesis singer will have his son, Nic Collins, sitting at the drum kit.
"I'm kind of physically challenged a bit which is very frustrating because I'd love to be playing up there with my son," Collins said in the interview with BBC Breakfast.
Genesis' Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks will be joining Collins as the band makes their return to the United States for the first time in 14 years. The Last Domino? Tour will kick off in Chicago on November 15, with the band making stops in Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Montreal, Toronto, Buffalo, Detroit, Cleveland, Philadelphia, and New York. Following their performances in the United States, Genesis will then be heading over to the UK and Ireland, wrapping up The Last Domino? Tour in their home country.
Collins' nerve damage also stands as the reason why the band stopped performing back in 2007. The damage was initially caused by Collins' drumming, and the performer received surgery in 2009 to repair a dislocated vertebrae in his upper neck. The first surgery was unable to help Collins continue drumming, with the former drummer undergoing a spinal procedure in 2015 to alleviate some of the damage. The second surgery proved more successful than the first, however, Collins revealed in 2016 that he is still unable to drum with his left hand.
