Alcohol Use Suspected in Fatal Sunday Crash in Highland County

Alcohol use is suspected in a single-vehicle fatal crash in Highland County from early Sunday morning that claimed the life of a Lynchburg man.

According to the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, William Hornschemeier, 42, of Lynchburg, was driving a 2008 Mazda 3 northwest on Oldaker Road in Union Township on Sunday, June 4th when the vehicle traveled off the side of the roadway during a curve. The car is reported to have collided with some trees and caught fire.

Hornschemeier was the lone occupant of the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Hornschemeier was not wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred, and the Patrol's release identified alcohol consumption as a suspected factor.

The Patrol says Hornschemeier is the fifth person to die in a traffic crash in Highland County in 2023.
