"Friends of Hopewell" Learning Hikes Start Saturday

As our local national park heads toward worldwide recognition this fall, its friends group is supporting park activities this summer. Kevin Coleman spoke with Friends leader Terressa Reep.

The "Friends of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park" are hosting a series of free second Saturday events.

The first will start 9am this Saturday at the Hopewell Works at 4731 Sulphur Lick Road, a few miles west of Chillicothe. Friends leader Terressa Reep says they are learning expeditions on the "ceremonial earthworks" protected by the national park.

Prepare for two to three hours on an unpaved trail for this one with staff archaeologist Dr. Bret Ruby. Reep says he is considered a world expert and his events are always informative and enjoyable.

Details for events in July and August second Saturdays will be announced in the park or Friends Facebook pages, and the Friends newsletter and emails.

We'll tell you about other Friends events soon.
