45-year-old Jason R. Humphries

The Ross County Grand Jury returned all 14 of their cases on Friday, June 20th, 2025, with one open for release to the public. From testimony in the the grand jury in the case, according to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office:

On May 29th, Chillicothe police were dispatched to the parking lot behind 16 South Walnut Street where they found a couple with injuries to their heads, with the woman having lacerations. One of them pointed in the direction of their assailant, who had walked away.

Surveillance video showed 45-year-old Jason R. Humphries approaching the woman in an aggressive manner, holding something covered a piece of cloth. He struck her with his fist, chased her, then hit her in the back of the head with the object.

The man tried to intervene, but Humphries struck him in the back of his head twice, causing him to lose his balance. Humphries then struck him again, knocking him unconscious.

Officers found Humphries with blood on his clothing and an empty sock. It is unknown what might have been in the sock, or why he attacked the victims. He was argumentative with the officers and upset about being arrested.

For an indictment on four counts of second-degree felonious assault, Humphries could get up to eight years and $15,000 in fines.

Humphries was homeless, with a last known address on Jay Street in Chillicothe. He remains in custody in the Ross County Jail.
