Shawn Mendes' mom had an extra memorable birthday this year thanks to a royal surprise from the future King of England.
The "Stitches" singer was seen in a video expressing his gratitude for Prince William's thoughtful gift for his mother, Karen Mendes, after the Prince of Wales sent her a cake for her birthday after learning her special day was on Sunday, per People. The pair were both in attendance at William's 2025 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Wednesday (November 5).
"She's still shaking, thank you," Mendes was heard saying in the clip.
The birthday surprise was seemingly made even more meaningful for Karen as she is originally from Dorset, a county in southwest England.
Mendes, who met the Prince of Wales earlier in the day during rehearsals, was one of several artists who performed at the ceremony. The 27-year-old Canadian singer was joined by artists Kylie Minogue, Anitta and Seu Jorge who all took the stage at the event.
William created the Earthshot Prize in 2020 as a way "mobilize a decade of environmental action to repair the planet," per the initiative's website, and award $1.3 million in prize money each year to support solutions in sectors to "protect and restore nature, clean our air, revive our oceans, build a waste-free world and fix our climate."
