ZT Clinches SVC Title Share/ Adena Stays Alive

Zane Trace clinched no worse than a share of the SVC Boys Basketball Championship with a 55-43 win over Piketon, running their conference record to (13-0), Friday. While the Pioneers were assuring themselves some "hardware", Adena stayed alive in their hopes for a title share, beating Unioto 50-38 for the Warriors final home game.

-

The Pioneers win puts them in the position to win the crown outright, if either Adena loses their make up game at Huntington on Tuesday, or beats the Warriors in their season finale, February 15th in the Herrnstein Hyundai SVC Game of the Week on WKKJ.

-

Adena came into the game without sophomore guard Jarrett Garrison, who suffered a stress fracture of his right leg in the Warriors Tuesday non conference win at Hillsboro. Sophomore Preston Sykes took over much of the point-guard duties, helping the Warriors get out to a quick 9-2 start. Unioto stormed back to cut the margin to 11-10 after one quarter, and had the game tied 23-23 at halftime.

-

The second half saw seniors Zach Fout and Caleb Fogelsong kick their offense into gear, with Fout scoring a game-high 18 points and Fogelsong's double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Fogelsong was left open from three-point range all nighty, then made the Shermans defense pay as he connected on 3 of 4 treys in the second half. Preston Sykes added 10 points and Logan Bennett with 8.

-

Unioto had 8 players in the scoring column, led by Cameron Debord's 9 points and Isaac Little with 8.

-

Adena shot 16/36 for 44%- including 6/15 from the arc and added 12/19 from the foul line. Unioto was 15/34 from the field for 44%- including 3/15 from the arc and added 5/8 from the line.

-

Adena controlled the glass with a 23-17 rebounding edge, with the Shermans committing 11 turnovers and 9 for Adena.

-

Adena improves to (11-1/16-4) as Unioto sinks to (5-8/9-11).
