Cavs Blow Open Game in Second Half In Win at Hillsboro

It was a definite tale of two halves in Hillsboro, with the host Indians dominating the stats in the first half and surprising the Cavaliers with a 14-14 tie at intermission.

Coach Doug Pryor commented that it took getting smacked in the mouth and a few adjustments to get the Cavaliers going. Chillicothe came out a different team after halftime and scored on three of their first four possessions to take control of the FAC battle.

Hillsboro used double wings and power runs by Bryce Parsons for two touchdowns in the first half.

A 28 yard scoring pass from Kam Smith to Keyon Williams and a huge Joel Barnes 60 yard interception return to the Indians’ four enabled the Cavs to stay even in the first half.

Chillicothe came out blazing in the third quarter, driving 54 yards in four plays on their first drive for the go ahead score. The touchdown came on a perfect 28 yard pass from Smith to Logan Snowden.

The Cavs forced a four and out and then it was Smith finding Barnes for a 56 yard aerial and midway in the third Chillicothe led 27-14.

Smith finally broke loose on a 27 yard scoring run to start the fourth period and the Cavs had control up 34-14. Smith wound up with three passing touchdowns and one TD rushing.

After being out gained by over 100 yards in the first half, Chillicothe wound up out gaining Hillsboro 373 yards to 252 for the night. The victorious Cavs rushed for 228 and Smith added 145 passing.

Tylin Scales had his best rushing game of his career running for 120 yards on 19 carries.

The Indians were led by Parsons with 87 running and quarterback Stout threw for 146 yards on 8-16.

The biggest negatives were Hillsboro turning the ball over three times and Chillicothe with 80 yards in penalties for the second week in a row.

Hillsboro falls to 0-3 while the Cavaliers move to 2-1 and 2-0 in FAC play. Chillicothe travels to Greenfield next Friday.
