SVC Volleyball Closes Round 1 With Adena (7-0)

Round one of SVC Volleyball is in the books with the Adena Warriors holding on the first place at (7-0). The Warriors closed the first round with a (25-21, 25-12, 25-20) victory at Huntington, dropping the Huntsmen to (5-2) in the conference.

Adena got out of the gates quickly in each set, only to see Huntington claw their way back into each set. Set #1 saw the Warriors start at 6-0, before Huntington tied it at both 6-6 and 7-7. But, Adena took off on runs that got them leads of 14-9, 18-12 and 24-18. The Huntsmen fought off set-point to get to within 24-21, before Adena closed it at 25-21.

Set #2 stayed close until 4-3, then the two-shade blue took off to leads of 14-6, 16-8 and 20-9, then closed it at 25-12.

Set #3 was another quick Adena lead at 4-1, but Huntington went on a 7-2 run for a 8-6 advantage, but didn't last long, as the Warriors rolled-off a 4-0 run for a 10-8 lead. Adena never trailed again, only seeing Huntington pull to within 15-14 and later 22-19, before they closed it at 25-20.

Adena improves to (7-0/11-0) and Huntington dropped their second straight SVC match and fall to (5-2/8-3).

Second round play opens Thursday, with Adena traveling to Paint Valley and Huntington hosts Piketon.

Elsewhere, Zane Trace gave Westfall all they could handle before the Mustangs pulled out a (25-22, 31-29, 25-27, 25-19) victory. The Pioneers had a chance to draw even in Set 2, but Westfall rallied from a 24-22 deficit and pulled out the 31-29 win. Westfall improved to (6-1/7-2). Zane Trace falls to (4-3/6-4).

Unioto was a straight set winner over Piketon (25-19, 25-11, 25-17).

Southeastern prevailed at Paint Valley, winning in five tough sets. (25-18, 25-19, 18-25, 16-25, 15-9).
