Some School Districts Are Banning Chocolate Milk!

As the years go on, times are changing when it comes the dietary options served at school. Well, the Department of Education is considering banning chocolate milk in public schools. The main reason for this potential ban is due to the high sugar content. According to nutritionist Reyna Franco, "Chocolate milk has about 10 grams more sugar than regular milk and children should limit their sugar intake to about 25 grams."

The Department of Health says that 4 in every 10 elementary school kids are overweight or obese so they are in favor of the band. The note on their website that "children who drink chocolate milk twice a day consume about 80 grams of sugar each week. That adds up to six pounds of sugar a year." Parents are very upset that schools want to put a ban on chocolate milk because it's a source of calcium. Parents also don't want it banned because they don't want their children to opt for juice or soda over white milk.

The Department of Education's main priority is the health and well being of the children so no decision on chocolate milk has been made yet. However, school districts in both San Francisco and Washington D.C. have already banned it. What do you think about this?
